By Gitte Sætre
This performance deals with global weapon industry.
I went to London, trying to enter into the DSEI weapon fair.
The Royal Victoria Dock was filled with 1.600+ exhibitors, 35.000+ attendees, 300+ world-class speakers, 50+ different countries and 40+ international pavilions.
This was were repressive regimes meet up with arms companies for 3 full days.
Woman Cleaning tried to clean up, she displayed her fear and worries.
After being rejected out of the highly secured area, she placed her self by the gates. She praying and meditated on the concept of war. For her, it was a ritual for care and acknowledgment. By physically placing her selves close to the event she could feel the consequences of all the weapon on display on her body.
She thought about how nations fuel up in there.
How nations talk to their people
How nations act before their people.
How nations keep killing human beings and the planets biodiversity; animals and plants.
How the wars pollute the air, the oceans and the mind of generations of people.
How weapon mutilates cities, homes, infrastructure and cultural heritage.
How will it all turn out when the newest technology of the year it playing it selves out?
In 2015 governments in Europe were turning away the largest number of refugees in History. Refugees fleeing from the worst war zones and we named it The Refugee Crises.
Nobody seemed to connect these two stories.
Not even the media seemed to care about the link.
It was all about football that week.
